Philadelphia, PA — October 29 — Prior to department-wide refresher training, Philadelphia Fire Department personnel participated in a practical training session to hone their skills with thermal imaging cameras. The Philadelphia Second Alarmers hosted the course, which concentrated on enhancing crews' capacity to find hot spots at a fire scene and recognize individuals who might be trapped in low-visibility or smoke-filled areas.

Using TICs to enhance search operations and fire suppression, firefighters developed scanning patterns, movement skills, and target recognition. Thermal imaging cameras are a crucial instrument for improving productivity and safety during indoor operations, according to the refresher. The agency hopes to increase public and firefighter safety by strengthening fireground decision-making through ongoing training using this technology.
