October 17, 2025 — Edgewater Fire Department reported that, in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, firefighters visited every school in the borough over the past several days to speak with students about fire safety. This year’s national theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” centered on safe handling, storage, and charging practices for battery-powered devices.

According to the department, firefighters engaged students in age-appropriate conversations about preventing fires, responding to emergencies, and recognizing everyday household hazards. The visits also emphasized the growing importance of lithium-ion battery awareness as these products become more common in homes.

The Edgewater Fire Department encouraged residents with questions or concerns about fire safety—especially those related to lithium-ion batteries—to contact the department for guidance and resources.
