PFD crews rescue trapped resident during midday house fire

Philadelphia, PA — 27 October — A house fire in the 1100 block of E. Sharpnack Street in East Mount Airy prompted the Philadelphia Fire Department to react in the after noon. After discovering a bedroom fire, the crews launched an interior assault and started a quick search. While one resident was safely evacuated prior to entry, another was saved and turned over to EMS personnel. Later, the resident who had been saved died.
In roughly twenty minutes, the fire was contained by the incident commander. Businesses stayed on the scene to do safety inspections and overhauls. An inquiry has been launched by the Fire Marshal's Office to ascertain the origin and cause.
