Cologne, N.J — Nov. 1 —Cologne Volunteer Fire Company concluded Fire Prevention Month with a final school visit to the Hess School, capping up a month of fire-safety outreach throughout the Township. Volunteers spoke with kids about the need to operate smoke alarms, have a home-escape plan, and recognize common household fire dangers.
While preventative efforts were underway, firefighters responded to 43 calls for service in October, increasing the year's total to 402. Several calls came in during school visits, causing volunteers to switch from education to emergency response without pausing.
