Township of Spring, Pa. — November 13 —As colder weather arrives, Township of Spring Fire Rescue reminds citizens to be cautious when heating their homes. According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of all heating-related fires occur in December, January, and February, making the beginning of the winter season an important time for prevention.

Fire authorities recommend keeping a safe distance from heating equipment, shutting off space heaters before leaving a room or going to bed, and never using an oven to heat a home. Residents should schedule professional service for furnaces, fireplaces, and wood stoves, as well as maintain fireplace screens and ash disposal methods to avoid sparks and flare-ups. The agency urges people to stay warm while being safe as the heating season begins.
