Station 42 Joins Multi-Company Response to Highway Truck Fire

Long Pond, PA —18 November — In response to a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 80, Department Tunkhannock Twp. Vol. Fire Co. Station 42, 1539 Long Pond Road, Long Pond, PA sent Engine 42 and Tanker 42 to help Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company. As part of the mutual-aid assignment, Pocono Summit Volunteer Fire Company and Lake Harmony Fire Company were also sent out.
While tanker operations kept a steady supply of water on the highway, crews discovered fire in the vehicle's tractor section and worked to put out visible flames with handlines. In order to prevent reignition, firefighters cooled the remaining hot places and examined the caravan for extension. Throughout the incident, traffic authorities helped by closing lanes to protect rescuers.
