Fair Lawn, N.J, Nov. 17: Two Fair Lawn firemen rescued an elderly, non-ambulatory man from a general-alarm house fire on Monday afternoon in the 300 block of 28th Street. Fair Lawn Fire Department units were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. and arrived to discover heavy smoke. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Salvini and Deputy Fire Chief Marc Palmieri entered the house, found the victim on the second level, and safely removed him despite the near-zero visibility. The incident, which was limited to a first-floor bedroom by a locked door, drew 25 firemen from all four Fair Lawn fire departments to the area.
The fire was brought under control around 4:46 p.m., and workers remained on the scene until around 6:00 p.m. for an overhaul. Two residents were transferred to Valley Hospital, and one firefighter was treated on the scene. Fair Lawn Rescue Squad, Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Fair Lawn Police, and OEM assisted. The Fair Lawn Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the reason.
