Fair Lawn, N.J. — October 30 — Driving a fire truck necessitates concentration, precision, and the ability to properly operate a 30-ton vehicle under emergency conditions. Fair Lawn's newest driver trainees recently completed a programmed obstacle course at the Saddle River Road commuter lot, which was designed to assess their ability to maneuver heavy vehicles in tight and challenging places. Before being certified, drivers must demonstrate complete skill in operating a fire pump, an aerial device, or both when assigned to the department's quint.
These drills ensure that all operators can respond safely, efficiently, and confidently when the community requires them the most. The Fair Lawn Fire Department welcomes new individuals to join the team and learn how to operate the apparatus. Interested parties should contact the department or email flfdrecruitment@fairlawn.org.
