On November 18th, 2025, at 2046 hours, the Avenel, Woodbridge, and Port Reading Fire Departments were dispatched to Cornell Street for a reported unknown type fire. As units called in service, the caller stated there was a lot of black smoke coming from the home, and the whole house was on fire. The first due engine transmitted the first alarm while responding to the callers and notes. When Chief 5-3-1 arrived, he stated he had a working fire. The first due engine company stretched the 1.75” crosslay through the front door. Shortly after the line was stretched, they had water on the fire, the first due truck company began primary searches. Woodbridge truck 1 took the A side of the structure and laddered the roof, and Port Reading engine 2-1 assisted in establishing a water supply. Interior crews had high heat, but a good knock on the fire, Port Reading pulled a back-up line. Crews had heavy smoke and limited visibility throughout the house as the fire was being knocked down. The bulk of the fire was knocked down approximately 10 minutes after the arrival of the first engine. As the fire was knocked down, companies started opening up and checking for extension. Primaries and secondaries on all divisions were deemed negative. After an extensive overhaul and ventilation, the fire was brought under control at 2131 hours.
