Lewistown, Pa. — October 23 — As part of the district's fire prevention efforts, City Hook & Ladder #14, 317 Valley Street, visited Lewistown Elementary School on Thursday. Students and staff were shown the department's equipment, tools, and turnout gear by firefighters during their meeting. Additionally, crews discussed escape plans, smoke alarms, and when to dial 911 with students.
The visit was a part of Mifflin County's continuous fire prevention outreach, in which departments collaborate with schools to strengthen early safety instruction. Teachers and children had the chance to investigate the fire engine and discover how firefighters operate their tools in an emergency.
