Glen Gardner, N.J. — November 1 — Glen Gardner Fire Company No. 1 responded to 21 occurrences in October, representing another month of consistent service to the community. Crews responded to a variety of situations, including structure fires, alarm activations, car accidents, outdoor fires, public assistance, and a gas leak. During Fire Prevention Week, the business also visited Ginger Tree School for a safety demonstration, and members received additional training in vehicle extrication and high-volume drafting.

Tender 12 participated in a live-burn exercise with High Bridge Fire Department at the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center, and firefighters took part in a touch-a-truck event in Franklin Township, Warren County. On Halloween, members staffed Main Street between Hill Road and Hunt Place to ensure a safe route for trick-or-treaters.

The top responders of the month were Capt. Joseph Starcher (72%), Chief Bryan Stevens (67%), Firefighter Anthony Starcher (58%), Firefighter Sim Hitzel (50%), and Firefighter Anthony Destefano (50%). With fall brush fire conditions still present, the firm advises residents to maintain loose brush at least 10 feet away from houses, stressing that dry and breezy conditions can allow fire to spread quickly.
