“Company 39 responded to assist with a significant outdoor fire. Our crews supported suppression and operations alongside county and state partners.”

“An extended incident today as crews worked a large outdoor fire with heavy smoke conditions. Great cooperation from all responding units.”
Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR39) reported that on Sunday, October 28, a crew of nine members was dispatched as a wildland firefighting asset to assist multiple departments at a large-scale mulch facility fire in Jackson Township, York County, just outside Spring Grove Borough. The request for assistance came around 5 p.m., as fire companies from across the region continued to battle the wind-driven incident.
According to GSFR39, the responding crew reported to the staging area at Spring Grove Middle School before being immediately deployed to a field on the north side of the fire. Shortly after arrival, the assignment was updated, and GSFR personnel were redirected to the main fire complex.
Once on scene, the GSFR UTV was loaded with tools and equipment as the crew checked in with Incident Command. They were then sent to the upper portion of the property, where they operated for several hours alongside an engine company from Fawn Grove and additional mutual-aid crews.
GSFR reported that personnel cut a fire line through burned material to advance handlines toward the tree line, working to prevent the fire from extending into the nearby woods. Crews extended leader lines and operated handlines to suppress advancing flames and control blowing embers driven by strong winds.
The department praised the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved in containing the large and challenging incident.
