Mountain Lakes, N.J. — October 27 — The Mountain Lakes Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire near Birchwood Lake after a good Samaritan saw smoke while out on a stroll and called 911. Crews came in the afternoon to confine and extinguish a minor fire before it could spread. The department advised people that reporting suspicious activity is always safer. Calling 9-1-1 ensures that police, fire, and EMS respond immediately to safeguard the neighborhood.
