October 25, 2025 — The Whiting Fire Company Station 33 welcomed residents this past Saturday for its annual Open House and Fire Prevention Day, offering a full day of fire safety education, demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.

Visitors toured the fire station, explored apparatus displays, and enjoyed games, giveaways, and a bounce house. Guests also experienced an interactive smoke trailer, which provided a hands-on look at how smoke conditions develop and how to navigate them safely.

One of the day’s featured events was a live burn demonstration, simulating a lithium-ion battery fire inside a mock living room. The demonstration highlighted how rapidly such fires can spread and underscored the critical importance of residential fire sprinklers and sleeping with bedroom doors closed—two simple measures that can significantly increase survivability in a fire.

The fire company extended its appreciation to several partner agencies who contributed to the success of the event:

  • West Windsor Fire Department and Captain Frueh for supplying the burn prop
  • Medford Township Department of Fire & EMS for providing the smoke trailer

Manchester Police Department, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, and Station 34 for their participation, equipment displays, and community outreach

Station 33 expressed pride in hosting the educational event and emphasized its commitment to expanding fire prevention programming in the years ahead.
