TROY, NY - On October 29th at 9:27 P.M., the city of Troy's Fire Department responded to 902 River Street for a reported structure fire. Engines 4, 1 and 2, the rescue squad, Trucks 2 and 1, Medic 4, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. The caller reported smoke on the second-floor, and they believed that there was a fire in the attic. Engine 4 arrived on scene and notified command that they had a two-story wood-frame building with nothing showing from the exterior, and were investigating.
Additional apparatus quickly began to arrive on scene along with the battalion chief. The chief noticed smoke showing from the attic area of the structure and transmitted the Signal 30 for a working structure fire. Firefighters made their way to the second floor and began to search for the source of the smoke. Firefighters making their way up to the scene made their way to the first-floor and the basement, as the home was a balloon frame structure to ensure that they did not have a fire in the basement. Firefighters notified command that they had a significant smoke condition in the attic area, and no other fire condition in the building. Firefighters pulled the hand line to the second-floor and made their way to the roof to pop the scuttle.
Firefighters began to pull the ceiling and discovered a small fire in the attic area. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire before it could spread any further, and popped the scuttle on the roof to find a slight smoke condition coming from the scuttle with no heat. Firefighters began to overhaul the area around the fire and command called the incident under control. No injuries were reported, and all of the occupants made it out of the house without injury. The fire was investigated by the Troy Fire Department. No cause has been released at this time. The Red Cross was contacted for all of the individuals inside of the residence.
