New Castle, Pa. — October 16 — Kindergarten children from the Laurel School District participated in a practical fire safety visit at Scott Township VFD-Station 1500. In order to help young learners comprehend how firefighters operate and why protective gear looks the way it does, firefighters demonstrated turnout gear, tools, and apparatus. Such early education initiatives continue to help Lawrence County's efforts to prevent fires.
Castle Towing and Hickory Township joined the tour, providing extra equipment for children to see up close. In a laid-back environment, kids asked questions, investigated the equipment, and learnt fundamental safety precautions. According to the department, these activities promote long-term community safety and foster familiarity with first responders.
