At 2:54 p.m. on November 7, New Hanover Station 37 was dispatched to the area of Miles Road and North Charlotte Street for a reported field fire. Upon arrival of Deputy 37 and the Fire Marshal, they discovered that increasing winds had caused the fire to spread rapidly, threatening nearby homes and surrounding wooded areas.
Command immediately requested additional resources. Multiple field units, ATVs, tankers, and engines were dispatched from departments across Montgomery County—including Limerick, Gilbertsville, Ringing Hill, Upper Pottsgrove, Green Lane, Upper Salford, Skippack, Upper Frederick, and Lower Frederick—as well as from Chester County (North Coventry) and Berks County (Boyertown).
Crews quickly went to work, attacking the fast-moving fire and establishing a firebreak around the perimeter using rakes to prevent further spread. Limerick Engine 51 was assigned to the east side of the field to protect nearby property and a residence in that area. After the main body of fire was knocked down, all ATVs and field units conducted multiple rounds through the area, thoroughly soaking the ground to ensure no hotspots remained. Tanker 59 and several engines supplied water for the operation.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) was dispatched to investigate the incident. Later that evening, the New Hanover Fire Marshal announced that the fire was believed to have been caused by an improperly discarded cigarette.
In total, approximately ten acres burned. No injuries were reported, and no nearby homes were damaged. All units cleared the scene after roughly two hours of operation.
