Egg Harbor Township, N.J. — October 21 —At about 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, the Cardiff and Farmington Volunteer Fire Company #4 responded to Sharkey Place after receiving a report of a damaged natural gas line. When they arrived, Rescue 15-17 confirmed that construction workers had struck a leaking gas line.
Since nearby homes were close, they asked for help from the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company and the Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department 24-1 (IAFF Local S-18) to evacuate residents from the Steeple Chase Village neighborhood. Firefighters and police worked together to clear the area safely while utility crews secured and fixed the line.
Units remained on the scene for about 2.5 hours until the incident was declared under control. The response also included the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, Egg Harbor Township EMS, and the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management, which provided support and coordination. The incident was managed by Cardiff Assistant Chief Craig Thompson, who praised the quick teamwork among agencies to ensure public safety during the gas emergency.
