Bellwood, Pa. — October 18 —It was a busy afternoon for the Excelsior Fire Department No. 1 of Bellwood. Crews handled several calls, including a tanker assist on Interstate 99 and a later medical emergency response.
At 3:12 p.m., Deputy Chief 36 from Bald Eagle requested Tanker 22 for a response to I-99, Mile Marker 53. Crews were managing a fire involving a concrete pump truck. The Excelsior crew, which had three members onboard, was first told to wait at Bald Eagle Station. They were then called to the scene to provide extra water for the overhaul operations. Tanker 22 delivered 1,500 gallons of water before command released them.
Shortly after returning to station and refilling, at 5:06 p.m., Excelsior was dispatched to assist AMED EMS with a cardiac arrest. Squad 22, staffed with four firefighters, responded, but the call was canceled en route when EMS reported the situation was under control.
