Spring Township, Pa. — October 25 —Early Saturday evening, Township of Spring Fire Rescue Services (TSFRS) Engine 85 was called to help with a mutual aid assignment at the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue in Cumru Township for a reported structure fire.
Initial reports indicated dark black smoke coming from the roof of a commercial building. When Engine 85 arrived, the crew saw that a single-story auto repair facility had light smoke coming from the chimney. The building manager told the firefighters that the oil burner might be malfunctioning.
Crews entered the structure, performed air monitoring with normal readings throughout, and secured power to the oil burner as a precaution. After confirming no fire extension or additional hazards, E85 stood by while the roof was checked and was later released by command.
No injuries or damage were reported, and the situation was deemed under control within a short time.
