Saxton, Pa. — October 21 — Despite the rain and strong winds, the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company continued to teach kindergarten through second graders in the area about fire safety. Firefighters took their Fire Prevention Program straight to the school, rather than holding the yearly visit at the firehouse.
The team shared hands-on demonstrations and safety tips, teaching children what to do in case of an emergency and the importance of practicing home fire drills. Parents were encouraged to review these lessons at home to reinforce the message.
The students couldn't see the fire engine and ambulance because the department was called to a 911 call near the end of the program. That part of the trip will soon be rescheduled by the company. Despite the weather, Saxton VFC was grateful to its Fire Prevention Team, teachers, and staff for making the day enjoyable and instructive.
