Maine — October 31, 2026 — Firefighters from Otisfield and several other departments spent hours combating a large forest fire near Coffee Pond in Casco on Saturday, October 31.

The fire was reported early on Saturday morning and grew to around 19.4 acres. Windy and dry conditions helped the fire spread, and flames crossed established fire lines while crews worked to contain the flames.

Casco Fire Rescue managed the local response, aided by mutual-aid departments and Maine Forest Service personnel. Otisfield Fire Department dispatched firefighters and its Forestry Unit, " The Monster," to assist with the operation.

The Otisfield crews labored for about thirteen hours before heading home to rest. The department shared that its forestry vehicle incurred multiple scratches while operating through wooded terrain.

The response included a dozen fire departments and forestry personnel. The board examined the quarterly results thoroughly.

The fire was controlled by the crews, but hot spots continued burning beneath the surface in root and debris areas. Casco officials confirmed later that the wildfire was contained and organized additional cleanup with the Maine Forest Service.
