Ayer, Mass. — November 4 —In October of 2025, the Ayer Fire Department responded to 325 incidents. The bulk of calls (221 responses) were medical emergencies, and 31 stations were assigned to cover overlapping incidents. In addition, the crews responded to 22 fire alarm activations, 11 concurrent medical calls that required ambulances from out of town, multiple car crashes, gas odor investigations, requests for mutual aid, and public assistance.
In addition to emergency calls, the department completed 37 fire prevention inspections, walk-throughs, and pre-plans, supported 3 fire or safety drills, and provided 8 public education events, including four full days of safety instruction at Page-Hilltop Elementary School. The department noted that smoke alarms played a key role in preventing injuries during a working fire on Pleasant Street, where occupants were alerted early and safely evacuated. Engine 2 arrived initially with two members due to an ongoing medical call, yet damage was limited to a basement exterior wall.
