Brooklyn, CT - Firefighters from multiple Windham County departments operated in the predawn hours Monday to extinguish an active rooftop fire at a commercial property on Day Street.

The East Brooklyn Fire Department and the Mortlake Fire Company were initially dispatched at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, for a smoke investigation at 4 Day Street in Windham County.

First-arriving apparatus found visible smoke pushing from the roofline and parapet wall of the commercial building, prompting the immediate transmission of a full alarm assignment to bring additional suppression resources and personnel to the scene.

Crews advanced rooftop handlines and located active fire burning on the roof deck. Firefighters achieved a rapid knockdown, preventing flames from extending deeper into the structural framing or the interior occupancy below.

Due to the prompt aggressive stop, the building sustained minimal damage, and the business was able to remain open for normal operations. The origin and cause of the incident remain under active investigation by the local Fire Marshal.

Mutual aid support throughout the Windham County operation was provided by the South Killingly Fire Department, the Danielson Fire Department, and the Atwood Hose Fire Company FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team).
