New Bedford, MA — October 31 — New Bedford fire crews were dispatched to a structural fire at 17 Adams Street, where the blaze originated in a second-floor bedroom within a substantial apartment complex.

Upon arrival, crews discovered an active fire within the bedroom. Engine 7 advanced an attack line to initiate an interior fire attack, successfully gaining control of the blaze with a single hose line. A second line was subsequently deployed as a precautionary measure while other personnel conducted a thorough search of the structure to verify the safe evacuation of all residents.

The prompt and rapid deployment of water effectively confined the blaze to its point of origin within a single room, thereby preventing its propagation through the occupied structure During the firefighting operations, three pets—a canine, a feline, and an avian—were successfully rescued.

No injuries were sustained; however, the fire necessitated the displacement of eleven residents, prompting an immediate response from the American Red Cross to deliver essential aid. Additional support for on-scene operations was provided by the Providence Canteen and New Bedford Emergency Medical Services. The response comprised Engine 7, Engine 8, Engine 1, Ladder 4, Ladder 1, Unit 1, and Unit 2.

The precise origin of the blaze remains unresolved and is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation. This incident underscored the imperative for a highly coordinated response within large-scale residential structures, wherein rapid fire suppression and search-and-rescue efforts were instrumental in mitigating risks to occupants and curbing further structural damage.
