PORT JERVIS, NY -- Port Jervis Fire Department’s Howard Wheat Engine Co. No. 4 was the scene of a safety event recently. It wasn’t a firefighter training session, but rather a free rabies vaccination clinic to help keep pets and the community safe.
Firefighters from Engine 4 and PJFD Fire Police were on hand at the Owen Street firehouse to help keep things running smoothy. Seventy-three dogs and 13 cats received their required rabies vaccine, completely free-of-charge.
Funding for supplies was provided through Orange County, NY. The clinic was administered by county volunteers, Town of Deerpark and Port Jervis Animal Control Officers George Debolt and Jeff Ewing, PJFD firefighters Jeff
Ewing and Stan Siegel, and Dr. Jessica Saltalamacchia and staff members of Tri-State Veterinary Hospital.
The rabies vaccine clinic is held at various times each year, and is always well attended. At times, attendance has been well over 200. Pet owners who brought their pets to this clinic expressed their appreciation for the affordable means of protecting their pets, and the convenience of having it hosted locally at Hose 4.
Great job, everyone!
