October 4, 2025 — At approximately 1:35 p.m., the Volunteer Fire Company of Western was dispatched to a motorcycle accident after a rider reportedly swerved to avoid a deer and struck a guardrail, ejecting him over the rail and down a steep embankment.

Due to the terrain, firefighters conducted a technical rescue, lowering a Stokes basket to safely retrieve the injured motorcyclist and bring him back up to the roadway. The patient was then transferred to a waiting Am-Care Ambulance and transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Responding units included Rescue 1, Rescue 2, and Engine 2, with 13 members on scene, along with the New York State Police.

The department commended the coordinated teamwork of all responders in executing a safe and efficient rescue under challenging conditions.
