October 17, 2025 — The Volunteer Fire Company of Western, joined by firefighters from the Floyd, Oriskany, and Stittville Fire Departments, spent Friday teaching fire prevention education to students at General William Floyd School in the Holland Patent School District.
Ten members from Western Fire participated in the program, which focused on introducing children to basic fire safety practices, including how to prevent fires, respond during an emergency, and understand the role of firefighters in keeping their community safe.
“This is often the first — and sometimes the last — opportunity for students to receive fire prevention education,” the department said. “That’s why it’s one of our top priorities.”
Firefighters, teachers, and students all enjoyed the engaging and educational day. The department extended gratitude to everyone who helped make the program a success, emphasizing the importance of teaching fire safety early and often.
