Baltic, Conn. — October 12 —As part of continuing training for their drivers and equipment, members of Baltic Fire Engine Co. #1 performed a pumping drill at the Main Street pond. Working the pump panel, creating a draft, and controlling the water supply under circumstances akin to those at rural fire scenes were the main objectives of the exercise.
In order to become a qualified engine driver, members must complete this training. Firefighters practiced setting up and maintaining a constant water flow, resolving typical problems, and coordinating with other on-scene units during the session. The department recognized FF/EMT Kyle Genest and FF/EMT Tim Johnson for completing their driver qualifications on Engine-Tanker 124 and Engine-Tanker 224.
