Bethpage, N.Y. — October 8 — Bethpage Fire Department’s Ladder 4 responded to assist the Hicksville Fire Department at a two-story commercial fire on East Marie Street and Broadway. Heavy fire consumed much of the structure, including the well-known House of Donuts.

Crews faced difficult conditions caused by dense storage in the basement, which slowed access and overhaul efforts. Firefighters operated for roughly three hours before returning later in the morning to extinguish remaining hot spots in a section of a nearby restaurant that had partially collapsed.
