Hicksville, N.Y. — October 15 — On the morning at approximately 5:42 a.m., the Hicksville Fire Department was dispatched to address a reported residential fire at 143 Pollok Place. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered severe fire conditions within the single-story dwelling, with flames visibly breaching and extending through the roof structure.
A secondary alert was dispatched to summon further fire units to the incident site, prompting fire departments from adjacent municipalities to converge in order to augment suppression efforts and supply additional manpower and equipment.
Under the command of Hicksville Fire Chief Christopher Wright, a contingent of approximately 75 firefighters drawn from the departments of Hicksville, Syosset, Bethpage, Westbury, Plainview, Jericho, Farmingdale, Levittown, and Glenwood deployed to the scene to manage the incident.
Firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze and halt its spread, achieving control over the incident within roughly an hour.
A resident was discovered unconscious in the vicinity of the residence after allegedly re-entering the structure and was subsequently conveyed to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation and potential thermal injuries.
Four adults were displaced due to fire-related damages and the subsequent loss of electrical service to the property.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, in conjunction with the Nassau County Police Department's Arson and Bomb Squad, conducted an investigation to determine the origin of the fire.
The response necessitated a synchronized effort between Hicksville and its neighboring departments, wherein mutual aid furnished supplementary resources during the second-alarm incident.
