Long Beach, N.Y. — October 6 — At 7:02 p.m., the Long Beach, New York Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire located on West Broadway.Upon arrival, personnel discovered that the blaze, which had originated on the first floor of an apartment building, had already been partially extinguished.
Upon the activation of the building's fire suppression network, the sprinkler system successfully isolated the blaze to its point of origin, effectively curbing its progression prior to the arrival of emergency responders. Firefighters subsequently extinguished the residual flames and conducted a thorough inspection to verify that the conflagration had not propagated to adjacent sections of the apartment.
Following the extinguishment of the fire, crew members utilized fans to ventilate the apartment. Subsequently, once the area had been thoroughly inspected and the blaze confirmed out, personnel also severed the water supply to the sprinkler system.
All fire operations were conducted under the command of Chief John Marino, with Assistant Chiefs DiGiacomo and Ray.
This incident underscored the critical efficacy of residential sprinkler systems in containing a fire at its source, preventing further propagation. Concurrently, established fire safety protocols mandate that candles be supervised continuously while in use and positioned at a safe distance from any combustible materials.
Housed at 1 West Chester Street in Long Beach, the New York City Fire Department for Long Beach delivered essential fire and emergency services to the city and its adjacent fire districts.
