Bernardston Fire Assists Greenfield in Nighttime River Rescue and Airlift Operation
October 28, 2025 - At approximately 11:23 p.m., Bernardston Fire Department was requested for mutual aid to the City of Greenfield to secure two landing zones at Greenfield Middle School for Life Star and Life Flight helicopters. The operation was in response to an incident that occurred on the White Bridge spanning the Connecticut River along the Greenfield/Montague line.
Turners Falls Fire and Greenfield Fire Departments managed the scene, with additional support from mutual-aid departments. Bernardston’s Engine 2 and Car 1 crews operated the designated landing zone, assisting helicopter crews alongside Greenfield Fire and AMR personnel in transferring two patients.
Bernardston units were released from the scene after the successful completion of the airlift operation and returned to service at 1:30 a.m.
