Sturbridge, Mass. — October 9, 2025 — The Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 conducted a detailed Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training session on Thursday night, focusing on firefighter rescue and survival techniques. Members of Group 2 and the Call Division trained at an acquired structure on Hall Road, using realistic conditions to refine their proficiency in saving downed firefighters.
Training evolutions covered SCBA harness conversions, drag and carry maneuvers, the use of the SCBA Pak Tracker, and the RIT air pack universal air connection (UAC). Crews also practiced the 2:1 hauling rope system, a key skill for removing a firefighter through a window or confined area.
