October 17, 2025 — The Westchester County Department of Emergency Services (DES) welcomed students from the Tarrytown School District on Friday for an exciting and educational Career Day highlighting the many paths available in public safety and emergency response.
Students spent the day exploring hands-on exhibits and demonstrations across several disciplines, including Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Services, Communications, and Hazardous Materials Response (HazMat). The experience gave them a firsthand look at the vital, life-saving work performed by DES professionals every day.
In addition to learning practical safety skills, students discovered the wide range of rewarding career opportunities available in emergency services — from first response to technical operations and support roles.
DES extended special thanks to Superintendent Ray Sanchez for his partnership and to School Resource Officer Steven Bencosme of the Sleepy Hollow Police Department for coordinating logistics and ensuring the students’ safety throughout the visit.
“The students’ excitement and curiosity made the day truly memorable,” DES officials said. “Events like this remind us why we serve — to educate, inspire, and prepare the next generation of lifesavers.”
