October 14, 2025 — The Bedford Fire Department responded to two chimney fires in less than a week, marking the beginning of what firefighters caution is peak season for such incidents.
The first occurred on Sunday, October 5, when crews were dispatched to a residence on Reynolds Lane for a reported chimney fire. Automatic mutual aid was provided by the Katonah Fire Department, with Ladder 39 and Tanker 6 responding. Car 2042 determined a blocked flue was causing heavy smoke throughout the home. Crews from Engine 109 and Engine 110 worked to ventilate and meter the structure, while the ladder crew assisted in cleaning the chimney stack.
Just days later, on Thursday, October 9, Bedford firefighters were dispatched to another chimney fire — this time on Bedford Center Road. Mutual aid was provided by the Bedford Hills Fire Department, which responded with Tower Ladder 57 and Tanker 5. Car 2041 confirmed a working chimney fire on arrival, and crews quickly extinguished the blaze, cleared debris, and ventilated the home.
Responding units included:
Car 2041, Car 2042, Car 2043, Engine 109, Engine 110, Ambulance 52-B2, Katonah FD Car 2211, Car 2212, Car 2213, Ladder 39, Tanker 6, Bedford Hills FD Tower Ladder 57, and Tanker 5.
The Bedford Fire Department reminds residents to have their chimneys inspected and cleaned annually to prevent dangerous blockages and potential fires during the colder months.
