MIDDLESEX, October 9, 2025 — As part of Fire Prevention Week, members of the Middlesex Fire Department visited Marcus Whitman Elementary School on Thursday morning to educate students about fire safety and emergency preparedness.

During the presentation, firefighters discussed the importance of having a home escape plan, staying calm during emergencies, and recognizing that firefighters—though they may look different when wearing masks and gear—are always there to help.

Students also had the chance to see firefighting equipment up close and learn how each tool plays a role in keeping communities safe.

Joining Middlesex for the event were neighboring departments and partners, including the Crystal Beach Fire Department, Potter Fire Department, Rushville Fire Department, and Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc.

The visit served as an engaging and memorable opportunity to teach young students essential fire safety skills and reinforce that awareness and preparedness save lives.
