Bridgewater Firefighters Conduct Training at Former Friendly’s Restaurant
Bridgewater, ME - Throughout the past week, duty groups from the Bridgewater Fire Department participated in hands-on training exercises focused on aerial device operations, ground ladders, and vertical ventilation techniques at the former Friendly’s Restaurant on Broad Street.
The department expressed its gratitude to Bob Cormier for allowing the use of the property and to the construction crew for accommodating the training activities.
Vertical ventilation, one of the key techniques practiced, involves firefighters cutting a hole in the roof of a structure and using a pike pole to “punch through” the ceiling. This procedure allows hot smoke and gases to escape, improving visibility and conditions inside for both trapped occupants and firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.
