Alma, N.Y. — October 23 — Allentown and Scio fire departments responded to a fire that broke out in the early morning on Bill Allen Hill Road in the town of Alma.A caller had reported a smoldering fire in a yard.
The call was received around 4:52 a.m. on October 23, 2026, and the location was near the intersection of Yeager Hill Road and Hog Brook Road. The dispatch records included several units: MD6, WV803, AT0, SC502, SC6, and WVALS.
These units came together from different areas to deal with the outdoor fire.
The incident was identified as an outside grass or brush fire. The initial report described the fire as smoldering, which means that the burning materials were still hot even though there were no strong flames.
Smoldering fires can keep producing heat and may turn into open flames again if the burning materials are not fully put out. Fire agencies like the U.S. Forest Service recommend making sure that all outdoor fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area.
The Allentown Volunteer Fire Company operated from 1966 Church Street and provided fire services in Allegany County along with neighboring departments such as Scio and Alma. This early-morning call reminds people to carefully check outdoor fire areas and report any smoldering fires before they spread.
