Back-to-Back FAST Deployments Mobilize Main-Transit Firefighters for Regional Blazes

Williamsville, NY - Firefighters from the Main-Transit Fire Department provided specialized rapid intervention coverage across two separate firegrounds Thursday evening, answering consecutive mutual aid requests in neighboring districts.

The sequence of emergencies unfolded on the evening of Thursday, October 1, 2026, when Main-Transit was requested to deploy a Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) to assist emergency personnel battling a working barn fire in the Town of Newstead. FAST units specialize in rapid intervention operations, establishing dedicated search, rescue, and extraction profiles solely to safeguard operating interior firefighters during structural operations.

While the Main-Transit FAST crew was clearing the Newstead fireground and returning to quarters, a second emergency alert was broadcast requesting FAST capabilities for an active structure fire within the East Amherst Fire Department’s operational district.
