Allentown, N.Y. — October 8 — Members of the Allentown Volunteer Fire Company Inc.deployed fire units from Alma to address a woodland fire near Fords Brook South Branch, which was reportedly caused by a downed power line.

Firefighters worked at the scene for about an hour to contain the fire and manage the associated hazards.

Wellsville EMS remained on standby during the incident to provide medical support if required.

The fire presented an electrical hazard due to the downed power line. National Grid safety guidelines warned responders and the public to stay at least 30 feet away from the line and avoid contact with nearby trees, branches, or objects that may be touching it.

Incidents involving fires near electrical lines require coordination with utility personnel to ensure the area is safe.

Firefighters must consider both the spread of the fire and the risk posed by electrical equipment.

The Allentown Volunteer Fire Company, based at 1966 Church Street, serves Allegany County alongside other local fire and EMS agencies. The response involved Allentown and Alma fire units, with Wellsville EMS on standby during the operation.
