October 18, 2025 — The South Bound Brook Fire Department conducted its annual live burn training on Saturday at the Piscataway training tower, running a full day of interior firefighting drills under live fire conditions.
Across three training evolutions — a first-floor fire, a second-floor fire, and a multi-floor scenario — members practiced critical fireground skills. Crews performed interior searches, stretched and advanced hose lines, and established hydrant connections to maintain water supply, all under controlled heat and smoke.
This year’s training marked an important milestone for the department. For the first time, South Bound Brook did not need to bring in outside instructors, as four members recently earned their fire instructor certifications and led the evolutions themselves.
The department extended its thanks to the Millstone Valley Fire Department for standing by as the Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) and assisting with refilling SCBA bottles, and to River Road Rescue Squad for providing EMS coverage during the drills.
The South Bound Brook Fire Department is actively seeking new members.
Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to reach out via Facebook, email captain@sbbfd.com, or stop by the firehouse any Thursday at 7 p.m.
