The Stillwater Area Volunteer Fire Company has issued an important community advisory after receiving reports of individuals posing as fire department personnel in the aftermath of recent power outages.

According to the department, unauthorized individuals were reportedly going door-to-door claiming to be conducting welfare checks on behalf of the fire department. Officials have confirmed that these individuals were not affiliated with the Stillwater Area Volunteer Fire Company.

The department emphasized that it does not typically perform welfare checks during power outages, and in rare cases when it does, members will always arrive in marked emergency vehicles and clearly identifiable uniforms or gear.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) immediately.

The fire company thanked the community for its awareness and cooperation, reminding residents that public safety depends on prompt reporting of suspicious or fraudulent behavior.
