Fair Lawn, N.J. — October 24: Friday evening proved to be a busy one for Fair Lawn firefighters, with two separate car fires reported within just a few hours.
The first incident happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. when Companies 2 and 3 of the Fair Lawn Fire Department were called to a working vehicle fire at 26th Street and Broadway. When rescuers arrived, they discovered a car completely involved, made more complicated by a gas line rupture that poured flaming gasoline onto the road. In order to help firefighters reach the back of the car, Fair Lawn Rescue set up a barrier to keep fuel runoff out of the storm drains nearby. The department was called to another car fire at 7:35 p.m., this time on River Road close to Bergen Avenue. The fire was promptly put out by Companies 1 and 3, with Fair Lawn Rescue helping to contain runoff once more.
Both fires were extinguished without causing any damage. The department attributed the prompt and efficient response to the coordinated efforts of rescue personnel and fire companies.
