October 22, 2025 — Members of the Westfield Fire Department took advantage of a valuable training opportunity this week, conducting vertical ventilation and garage door entry drills on a home provided through the department’s Acquired Structure Program.
During the session, firefighters practiced key firefighting tactics, including ladder placement, roof operations, working on pitched surfaces, and cutting ventilation holes—skills critical for improving visibility, reducing heat, and aiding in search and rescue during real incidents.
The training allowed firefighters to experience realistic conditions and refine their techniques in a safe, controlled environment. The department emphasized that opportunities like this are essential for maintaining operational readiness and ensuring that crews remain proficient in essential fireground tasks.
The Westfield Fire Department extended its gratitude to the property owner for donating the structure, enabling members to strengthen their skills and continue their commitment to excellence in public safety.
