Wayne, N.J. — October 21: Wayne Fire Company #2 and the Community Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc. were called to Burgess Place earlier Tuesday afternoon after receiving reports of a brush fire near the railroad tracks.
Upon arrival, crews found that the surrounding brush had been ignited by a primary power line that was down and sparking. To safely control the hazard, the fire companies collaborated with the Wayne Police Department, NJ Transit Police, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, and PSE&G. In order to secure the line and put out the fire, the area's power was momentarily turned off.
Additional reporting shows that brush fires near train tracks in New Jersey have previously disrupted rail service and required coordinated responses between fire departments and transit authorities. Thanks were extended to all assisting agencies and to the community for its patience while the incident was resolved.
