At 1720 hours on October 24, 2026, the Camden County Fire Alarm Room dispatched the Haddon Heights-Barrington Fire Department with automatic aid units to 1640 W. High Street in Haddon Heights for the report of a dwelling fire. The original caller who reported the fire was walking past the house and noticed smoke showing from the side door (D side). An area off duty fireman, who lives in the same block, did a quick size up and confirmed a working fire with active fire in the rear of the dwelling and relayed that to Bellmawr Fire Chief 3, Dan DiRenzo, who also confirmed that on his arrival and reported smoke showing throughout and requested the working fire box signal. The whereabouts of the occupant(s) were not known so units were advised of the possibility of victims still inside and a paramedic unit was requested. The Haddon Heights-Barrington Squad Company (Squad 2) arrived and stretched the hose line to the front door and were met with Collyer's Mansion conditions. Squad 2 crew quickly made their way to the seat of the fire in the rear of the first floor and located a victim. The victim was removed and turned over to EMS. Companies stretched line, water supply was established, searches were made, ladders were placed, ventilation performed, overhaul completed, and the fire was placed under control in fifteen minutes. The victim succumbed to their injuries.
