Union Fire Company No. 1 Honors the Life and Legacy of Past Assistant Chief David R. Vining

October 17, 2025 - The officers and members of the Union Fire Company No. 1, joined by family and friends, gathered to honor the life and legacy of Past Assistant Chief David R. Vining, who passed away on October 7th at the age of 84.


Assistant Chief Vining dedicated over 61 years of service to the community as a volunteer firefighter. Throughout his decades of commitment, he played an active role in numerous company events, including bingo nights and the annual carnival. His unwavering dedication earned him several honors, such as the President’s Award and Firefighter of the Year Award.


As part of the day’s tribute, his son, Past Chief Mark Vining, drove Engine 21-4 along Third Street, carrying his father on his final ride to his resting place in Oxford Cemetery.


Assistant Chief Vining’s leadership, generosity, and lifelong commitment to the firehouse will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. The Union Fire Company No. 1 extends its deepest condolences to the Vining family and gratitude to the West Grove Fire Company and the Oxford Borough Police Department for their assistance during the services.
