Brookhaven FD Hosts Fire Prevention Open House

Shirley, N.Y. On October 7, 2023 the Brookhaven Fire Department hosted its fire prevention open house at their Station 1 on Camp Upton Rd in Shirley. Fire fighters had several demonstrations for those of the community that came out for the event including demonstrations of Stove Fires and cooking safety, Vehicle extrication and a car fire. In addition, the department’s Drone was on display and gave a brief demonstration of how the drone flys and some of its imaging capabilities.  Suffolk Sheriffs office was on hand giving out Child IDs to parents, Suffolk Police Highway Patrol had some of their special vehicles on display including an old cruiser, A Camaro, and a Cobra Mustang also.  FASNY and the Suffolk Fire Marshal helped show kids how to use fire extinguishers and other equipment, Local Charity Helping Makes you Happy gave kids Halloween Costumes and even a bike was raffled off to a lucky winner.


Despite the rain it was a great event. The kids and families had fun and learned a lot.
