West Amwell, NJ - At approximately 9:06 a.m., the West Amwell Fire Company (WAFCO) and the 17 Rescue Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad were dispatched to a local business following the activation of a fire alarm. Upon arrival, Chief 26 (Ent) assumed command and initiated an investigation, which determined that a microwave oven had caught fire and was subsequently removed from the building.
The incident was traced to the accidental placement of a warming mug inside the microwave. The crew of Quint 26, under Assistant Hoagland, conducted a thorough check for fire spread and confirmed there was no extension. Due to fire damage involving lithium-ion batteries within the coffee mugs, the Hunterdon County Hazmat team was requested to address the potential battery hazard.
The West Amwell Township Fire Marshal responded to the scene, and the West Amwell Township Police Department provided additional support. Emergency crews remained on-site for approximately one and a half hours.
